Interview with Australian Author – Darren Franklin

“Australian Authors” – Tell us a little about yourself? Perhaps something not many people know?

Darren  – Well, not many people know I have written 2 books that film companies are interested in, so that is why I am on here.

“Australian Authors” – What made you want to become a writer?

Darren – Getting a story out that is not normally told in an industry that is kept secret.

“Australian Authors” – What gives you inspiration for your book(s)?

Darren – Satisfaction of having a completed book and making people aware of another world they don’t know.

“Australian Authors” – Now, the big question, are you working on another book?

Darren – Yes I am! It is already written, just trying to find a publisher which is proving difficult because it is politically sensitive but if published, will open reader’s minds wide open.

“Australian Authors” – What genres do you prefer to write in?

Darren – Factual, non-fiction, true stories.

“Australian Authors” – What do you think about the ebook revolution?

Darren – Great! We must move with the time. Some people don’t want to

“Australian Authors” – Do you start a book with a definite plot, or do you just write?

Darren – Non-fiction plots are easy – just tell the truth with no embellishment. So yes, the plot is definite before I write.

“Australian Authors” – Pen or type writer or computer?

Darren – Computer. I am a touch typist taught in the military.

“Australian Authors” – Do your characters seem to hijack the story, or are you always in control?

Darren – I am always in control as it is non-fiction. I write who did what and who said what.

“Australian Authors” – Are your characters based on real people or completely imagined?

Darren – Real people.

“Australian Authors” – Have you thought about joining with another author to write a book?

Darren – Yes.

“Australian Authors” – Who are your favourite authors?

Darren – Jules Verne, Mark Twain.

“Australian Authors” – What’s your advice to Authors? On writing? Publishing? Marketing?

Darren – Never give up. Keep sight of the goal. Peace meal your writing (Joseph Stalin’s “salami technique”). Research marketing trends such as social media. Get to know successful authors and become their friends and mentor from them. Get a good agent and if you can’t find one, research publishing contracts and represent yourself. I have 2 book published without an agent, just have good reliable industry friends who steer me in the right direction.
