Interview with Australian Author – Faye Hall

“Australian Authors” – Tell us a little about yourself? Perhaps something not many people know?

Faye – I’m from North Queensland, Australia and write steamy historical romances set in and around my home town during the late 19th century. I am a wife and a mum who has quite a few tattoos.

A lot of my own family history goes into the mystery and drama of my books.

“Australian Authors” – What made you want to become a writer?

Faye – As a child, I loved telling my parents stories and they always encouraged me to write them down so I could remember them. As I reached high school and my English teacher told me I would never get anything published, I pushed myself to prove him wrong. Now I just write because I love telling stories and creating characters.

“Australian Authors” – Now, the big question, are you working on another book?

Faye – Always working on the next book. Currently writing book 5 for the Sins of the Virtuous series, but I also have notes for a few single titles that always get worked on too.

“Australian Authors” – What genres do you prefer to write in?

Faye – Historical Romance set in Australia.

“Australian Authors” – What do you think about the ebook revolution?

Faye – I love it because that’s what I’m published in, though I worry that one day we will turn around and all the paper books are no more.

“Australian Authors” – Do you start a book with a definite plot, or do you just write?

Faye – I usually have a rough idea for a plot, but then I allow my characters to choose what direction they want to go in too.

“Australian Authors” – Do your characters seem to hijack the story, or are you always in control?

Faye – Yes they hijack the story but that’s how I like it. I’ve been known to ask my characters what they want to do next if I’m stuck on a scene.

“Australian Authors” – Are your characters based on real people or completely imagined?

Faye – They are all loosely based on real people either from my family, or random people I have met over the years, but there’s a lot of imagination that goes in there too.

“Australian Authors” – Who are your favourite authors?

Faye – I love Amanda Quick for a romance author, but my all time favorite author is Harper Lee.

“Australian Authors” – What’s your advice to Authors? On writing? Publishing? Marketing?

Faye – Just keep plodding along and never give up. And interact with your readers and show them that you are more than just the books you write.
