Nobody said being a private investigator would be easy, even in a tourist town like Cairns, but now it has turned deadly. He’s a war veteran, an expert shot and if he has to, he can kill a man with his bare hands. There’s only one thing he hates more than guns and that’s other people with guns out to kill him. And then there’s the lawyer - smart, beautiful and even more dangerous than him. Life is getting complicated and he doesn’t know what he’s afraid of most: the guys with the guns, or the emotions she is stirring deep within him. This is the Sunbird Detective’s first real case and it’s a matter of life or death.

Great read. Loved it. Captured the Australian
atmosphere and landscape. Good dialogue, plenty of suspense, spills and thrills. My only niggle: a bit to much of 'intimacy ' in places. Imo. Otherwise a great read and would buy more from this author.

A detective story against the backdrop of a love story set in my own state of Queensland

The story was engaging and interestingly multi-layered, the action scenes played out with the detail as if I was watching them on a film or tv, and the love story that underpinned it was never far from my thoughts as the story progressed. A really nice and clever balance. Very well written and characters that really drew me to them.

What an exciting read! Similar to an Aussie version of Jack Reacher - full of exciting twists and turns to keep the reader engaged. Looking forward to the next Sunbird Detective novel, ‘Darkness’.
He found someone he thought he’d lost forever, and learned what real love is. But now the dream is out of control, the scars hurt more than ever and seething anger sits on his shoulders like a leaden weight.
He must be on top of his game or he will fail, but how can you face down evil, when you think you’re losing your mind?
