Heidi Damman was born and raised in Melbourne, she has been interested in art from a young age. She travelled Australia in her early twenties which inspired a love of the natural Australian environment. She has since continued to travel in Australia and overseas, enjoying visiting national parks and camping.
After having her three children she decided to pursue a career in early childhood education. She loves being able to make a difference in a child's life and give them opportunities to learn and grow.
She found on so many occasions children who didn't know our Australian animals. They would call a cockatoo or a magpie a kookaburra or a duck. Children who called an emu a flamingo. It was not surprising considering the vast majority of books available to children are of animals from around the world with the classic bears, elephants, tigers and farm animals.
The combination of these interests inspired her to make this book series.

A quality board book of fourteen Australian animals, designed as a first animal book for preschool children from birth to five years of age. Simple, beautiful illustrations with bold outlines on a white background, making the images stand out to capture the interest of children. An interesting book children will enjoy looking at and learning about time and time again.
The book was absolutely fantastic. It was educational, informative and a great representation of Australia. The kids will cherish it for years to come.
I purchased two of these hard cover books, one for my own book shelf & the other to send over to Masbate a small remote village in the Phillipines. I know these books will be enjoyed now & for many years to come. I would also like to congratulate Heidi on this book it’s brilliant
What a great little book, my 16 month old is loving carrying it around the house and pointing at the animals, can’t wait for the bird books as he loves to say birdies and watch them
