How far would you go to honour a promise … or uncover the truth?
In 1938, as Hitler’s grip tightens across Europe, Jewish teenagers Lev and John flee Germany with their new-found friend May, a courageous Polish girl. Safe in the UK, the trio is torn apart – May is taken in by a childless farming couple, while Lev and. John sample living in London with a cantankerous couple of their own faith.
From the historic halls of Bletchley Park to the dingy corners of London’s black market, the three friends’ lives are interwoven with triumph and tragedy, love and loss.
When the war ends, John and May marry and, along with Lev, migrate to Melbourne, Australia, determined to build a brighter future for themselves.
But happiness proves fleeting when, years later, a brutal robbery shatters their hard-won stability.
A death. A vow for justice. And a grandson who’s left behind with so many questions.
In his debut novel Lucky / Unlucky, author Ty Evans has created a sweeping saga that spans decades and continents – a tale of resilience, reinvention and the strong bonds of loyalty and friendship.
